Is a coach allowed to stand past the end of the bench and past the end line while coaching (even if he is six feet from the sideline)?

Yes, a head coach is permitted to stand anywhere along the sideline of the team bench provided as long as she is 6″ from the sideline and not in the 10″ subzone. The head coach is the ONLY team personnel that is permitted this privilege during play. Team personnel are allowed to stand and celebrate after a play or to greet a player who has just substituted out of the set and is returning to the team bench.
If, however, the coach has received a “yellow” card for Unsportsmanlike Conduct she may no longer stand during the play and must remain seated on the team bench except to request a timeout, substitution, or to greet a player returning to the bench from the court. That loss of standing privilege remains in effect for the duration of the match and not just for the set in which the conduct card was issued.
